Kailyn and Daniel’s pre-wedding day in March 2026 combined Tromsø’s architecture with the open winter landscape beyond the city. Kailyn wanted photographs with the fjords in the background, so those views were an important part of the day alongside our time in town.

I find myself increasingly drawn to photographing couples in Tromsø’s streets. Working in the city is practical, but the architecture is also a reason to be there in its own right. The sharp, repeating lines of the Arctic Cathedral, historic wooden façades and the waterfront pavilion offer very different settings. Even in places I have photographed before, I still feel there is plenty left to explore.

For Kailyn and Daniel, this meant a mix of architectural portraits, closer photographs together and wider compositions where the surroundings became a larger part of the frame. Beside the fjord, snow-covered mountains and open water gave the photographs a different sense of space.

Not every photograph was formal. A veil caught in the wind and a laughing walk through the snow, with winter jackets over their dress and suit, were part of the day too. Those moments sit alongside the more composed portraits in the gallery.

Later that same day, we headed out together to look for the Northern Lights. We made a few portraits beneath the aurora, adding an evening chapter to their pre-wedding story.
