Surprise proposal photography

Photography by Arbo Rae

Kelly and Bryant’s December evening beneath the Northern Lights near Tromsø included a surprise proposal in the snow. I photographed the proposal and their time together afterwards, with the aurora changing overhead.

Snow-covered road leading through dark trees toward a low, luminous aurora.
A couple embraces in a dark snowy landscape beneath a star-filled sky, with bare branches framing the scene.
Single person in a pale coat standing in a snowy birch landscape beneath a low aurora.
Layered aurora ribbons and a red vertical flare above low snowy hills and leafless brush.
One partner kneels in the snow before the other beneath a broad aurora.
A close hand reaches into the foreground beneath a green aurora, with the snowy landscape receding behind it.
Close couple portrait beneath a sharply sweeping aurora, with their faces turned toward one another.
Couple standing with arms raised on a snowy outcrop beneath a luminous aurora.
Abstract vertical aurora curtains rising above a dark treeline.
Close couple portrait beneath a vivid aurora ribbon, with snow and dark trees behind them.
An abstract view of layered aurora bands and soft atmospheric colour filling the night sky.
A small couple stands in a snowy open field beneath a near-complete aurora arc and distant tree line.
